My name is Bailey. My former owner surrendered me to the good folks at Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue (CCDR) because she was having a hard time caring for me due to her personal health issues. Out of her great love for me, she made this difficult decision, to give me the chance to be adopted by another home who would also give me fabulous care with lots of love and attention, just like she did since I was a puppy.

They say I’m a Dachshund mixed with a Chihuahua, but the Chihuahua influence is ever so slight and I primarily resemble a Longhair Dachshund. I am a very laid-back, easy-going kind of guy, but more about my “chill” persona later. I like spending time outside in my foster home’s back yard: exploring the fenced-in surroundings, basking in the sunlight, rolling in the grass, barking at the rabbits and squirrels on the other side of the fence, and running and playing with my new canine foster siblings. I also love going for walks with my new dog buddies. Since my former owner was no longer able to take me for walks, I have gained some weight, so these walks are really helping me to shed those extra pounds.

When not running and playing and enjoying being outside, there are fun times happening when inside too. First off, I love to give puppy kisses. Lots of puppy kisses! If you like puppy kisses, I am the pup for you! I like to cuddle up next to my dog pals on our pillows and sit on my foster person’s lap on the couch, all the while providing never ending puppy kisses. And at night, we all snuggle up together in the big bed.

My foster home introduced me to their cat named Holly. Having never been around a cat, I did what is typical nature of any dog and I barked at her, expecting her to run away so I could give chase. Unlike the rabbits and squirrels in the yard, Holly did not run away. Now that I know that cats are not to be barked at nor chased, I am good with cats.

Trips to the veterinarian’s office frighten me, as do loud noises. For the vet visits, it was suggested that I take some pre-visit anti-anxiety medications to make my doctor visits less scary. I have a dry eye condition known as KCS (Keratoconjunctivitis sicca). I have prescription eye drops and over-the-counter eye drops that must be put in my eyes twice a day, but that’s all that’s needed to manage my KCS. My eyes will occasionally become crusty from those artificial lubricants, but cotton swabs (Q-tips) dipped in eye wash cleans that away nicely. I am very well-behaved during all the eye drops and eye-cleaning procedures which presents a shining example of my laid-back, easy-going, “chill” personality.

I am a good boy who knows to potty outside. I did have a few accidents when I first came to my foster home because I was frightened by all the sudden changes in my life, but I quickly picked up on the routines in my foster home and I’ve adjusted to my new schedule. I’m looking for a new owner who will be patient with me until I can truly feel safe in new surroundings. After a brief “getting-to-know you” period, my foster parent discovered that I can be trusted beyond a gated enclosed space and I now enjoy access to all open rooms in the house when left alone (so far, for up to 5-hours).

To recap, I am a loving, super sweet natured little boy. I am doing alright around cats. I like spending time in my fenced yard, taking walks, hanging out with my canine pals, cuddling with my person, and giving puppy kisses. I have greeted strangers nicely and I am super happy to greet both male and female visitors...jumping around, tail wagging furiously, awaiting the opportunity to lavish them with puppy kisses. My dry eye condition requires daily care and the use of prescription eye drops, but other than that I am a healthy boy. While with CCDR, I will be getting my teeth cleaned, but after that I should be cleared for adoption soon.
