Dolly is cautious at first meeting but quickly warms up to visitors. The girls came to us potty pad trained and added doggy-door trained to their resumes while in foster care. Dolly walks well on her leash for daily walks (weather permitting), and she enjoys spending time in a fenced yard at her foster home. When outside, Dolly pays attention to where her person is at all times and obediently comes when called.
At one time, both girls were overweight, with Dolly weighing in at 18 pounds and Lily at 22 pounds. Dolly is now at the other end of the spectrum and is very thin. She has not been able to put weight back on because she gets ill whenever we increase her food intake. Although frail looking, she eats as much as she wants and is a tiny, active and happy girl.
Dolly prefers sleeping in (the biggest) dog beds and does not get up on furniture, although she loves to be picked up and held. Dolly has responded well to new routines and is very eager to please.
While in foster care, Dolly has received ongoing veterinary care, both routine and specialty. After Dolly arrived, she received a dental cleaning, resulting in the extraction of 5 teeth. She also has other teeth missing from lack of previous dental care. Dolly had inactive cherry eye in both eyes for which she had a surgical procedure to correct. She has some scarring in her eyes which does not seem to affect her vision. Towards the end of 2024, Dolly experienced some gastro-intestinal troubles, which started after a pancreatitis diagnosis. She continues to have bouts of occasional gastrointestinal upset, but these are kept to a minimum through a controlled low-fat (prescription) diet and daily famotidine, and we've avoided urgent care by our foster home acknowledging repeat symptoms and following a pre-identified treatment protocol the minute Dolly seems "off."
Dolly has never shown food or toy aggression. Dolly gets along with other dogs and, when introduced, she did not show interest in cats. Although cautious, she's been friendly when introduced to strangers and children. Dolly has exhibited some fear towards men and periodically barks at her foster dad. For the most part, Dolly is a cheerful and mellow little girl.
It’s so easy to fall in love with Dolly's crooked smile, but we’re looking for that special home who can support her dietary and medical care. Dolly deserves to be spoiled for the rest of her life! She is sweet, polite, and seeks approval and love from her humans. If you can provide that special home for Dolly, please fill out the Adoption Application on our website.
