Remi is an adorable 6-year old female Dachshund/Pomeranian mix. She actually looks like a little black fox, and since she only weighs 11 pounds, we do mean little! It's her long legs that actually make her look bigger than she is.
Remi appears to be the perfect dog, with everything in moderation. She is smart, but not too smart. She has energy, but not too much energy. She loves to be outside but willingly comes inside when called. She loves people but is not a Velcro dog. And she doesn’t seem to have an aggressive bone in her body.
Remi LOVES people! She actually prefers humans to dogs which would make her a great emotional support dog or a great companion for someone with no other dogs. Remi is very willing to please and craves learning. No need to raise your voice with this attentive little one. Just figure out how to communicate with her and she willingly complies. And since she is treat motivated, all the better and easier to communicate.
Although Remi is not lacking on the energy scale, she settles right down to a TV show or bedtime. She would be great on a hike or just an easy stroll around the neighborhood. Remi does love to be outside chasing squirrels and keeping the yard safe. Give a call and she is right back inside to receive her treat and then to lie down for a nap.
Remi's foster family has cats and although Remi was not aggressive with the cats, she showed a little too much interest in them. If the cat ran, Remi chased...not to hurt but merely to chase. And since Remi chases squirrels, chasing cats may always be an issue. If it runs, she will give chase. Based on Remi’s reaction to their baby in her previous home, we also think that she should only be with older children who will not entice Remi to become excitable.
When Remi first came to her foster home, she had a fear of kennels and having her collar grabbed. She was also lacking in understanding dog social structure. All of this has been worked on in her foster home and is well on its way to being corrected. Remi's new home will need to continue working on these issues.
Does Remi sound like the type of dog you are looking for? She seems like she could fit into several different types of homes, but she will do best in a home who is familiar with dog behavior and the basics of training. If you think your home might be a match for Remi, please follow the link at the top of her bio and fill out our Adoption Application or contact us with questions (and be sure to include Remi's name in the title of your message): email fosterinquiry@c2cdr.org for more information.
