Whisper (Whispering Flame of Fire) looks and acts as grand as her name. She is a 13-year-old red brindle longhaired Dachshund who weighs in at 14 pounds. She came to CCDR with 5 other siblings because their elder owner’s health issues made it difficult for her to keep up with their care. Whisper has been brought up to date on her basic vaccines (rabies, DHPP), her heartworm/tick test and fecal all came back negative, her senior blood panel looks good, and she received a dental cleaning with extractions. Whisper had most of her remaining teeth removed, however, she is way too “regal” to allow her tongue to hang out of her mouth. In spite of her lack of teeth, she has no problem eating and Doc says she is in great shape! Other than hearing a slight heart murmur, which isn’t unusual for dogs her age, Whisper was issued a clean bill of health from our vet and she is now ready for her new home.

Whisper is on the serious side, embracing her role as a beautiful, well-behaved Dachshund like royalty. She holds herself in a dignified, proud manner and is definitely a leader without taking her alpha role too seriously. She is essentially her own dog, not leading and not following. She loves people and gets along great with other dogs and cats. Because of her age, we think it best that she goes to a quiet home where routine is the norm and that her new home have at least one other dog. Whisper has never known life as an only dog nor been around small children. We don’t feel as though she should have to learn to adapt to that lifestyle at her age.

Whisper is house trained and is pee-pad trained. She has no problems eating but her foster home does have her on a diet that is easy for her to chew. She loves sunbathing and just hanging out in the fenced yard with her foster family, exploring the large garden. Whisper spends a lot of time ‘resting’ but don’t try to sneak outside without her! She instinctively knows when her human is on the move to a place other than the kitchen or bathroom. She has those sounds and routines down pat and prefers to follow along where her human goes. As independent as she is, she enjoys the company of others.

This refined lady is looking for someone to spoil her. If you meet that qualification, then Whisper might find you a worthy home! F
