Hope-Puppy Mill Rescue

Hope was one of 17 dachshunds rescued from a puppy mill in Alabama.  When she came to her foster home she was terrified of what was happening to her.  The worst part for Hope is that she had lost the majority of her hair due to demadex mange.  We can only surmise that Hope had this problem for the majority of her, what we estimate to be, 3 years.

Not only did Hope have little or no fur, she had spent so much time in a wire cage she had lost the majority of muscle tone in her hind legs and barely kept her behind off the ground when she walked.  Hope was so underweight when she came to us we didn’t even realize she was actually a beautiful red standard girl.

Hope began to flourish once out of these horrible conditions.  She received treatments for the mange and began to enjoy the finder things in a doxie life….warm beds, fresh food and water, playing with other doxies and simply walking outside in the grass.  Hope decided that she really enjoyed being outside and loved running as fast as she could from one side of the yard to another.  She would frequently fall because of her poor muscle tone but she kept going anyway.

Now Hope is living with her new mom in a lovely country setting.  Her new parents are building a log cabin set back in the woods near a pond.  Hope has a new brother who loves and cherishes her.  When Hope gets a little too far away from the house her new mom tells her brother Killian to “go get that pretty girl and bring her back”.  Killian does this by running after her and nipping at her feet until she turns around and comes back.

Hope is now enjoying a life she may never have had without the efforts of so many wonderful people.

Look at Hope NOW!  She is improving so well she has hair that covers her body now.
