Winnie
wasn't having a good day. Either someone didn't want her any longer or
she wandered away from her home, but Winnie Cooper was blind and didn't
know where she was. A good Samaritan discovered her in the road as a car
was approaching and called to her. She followed his voice and much to his
horror she walked right off of the neighbor's steep retaining wall, falling
down the hill. As he ran over to check on her she headed for the
road again. This time our good samaritan had to run into traffic
to get the cars to stop to keep from running Winnie over.
Being a dog lover he took the blind Doxie in to the house to meet his
wife. The Doxie was named Winnie Cooper, fliers were put up in the
neighborhoods surrounding theirs, and they took her to the vet, but no
one claimed her. CCDR was contacted. She went into foster care,
was vetted, guessed her to be about eight years old, had her teeth
were cleaned and her eyes were checked. The vet determined that her
loss of sight is due to cataracts. It was suggested that possibly Winnie
would be a candidate for cataract surgery.
Winnie was too precious and to sweet a dog to be blinded so it was
hoped that a visit to the ophthalmologist would give Winnie a good prognosis
for cataract surgery. An appointment was made. The initial exam was going
to be $150. Therefore, the immediate goal was to raise $150.
If Winnie Cooper is a candidate for the surgery there will be a major attempt
to raise the $1,800 to $2,000 needed to pay to have cataract surgery done
on both eyes to give Winnie her sight back. We'll keep you posted. In the
meantime donations have covered the initial ophthalmologist cost so when
the results come in we'll post the results.
