Sweet Pea

It is with great sadness that we lost Sweet Pea on January 29, 2004. Her valiant fight to survive was mirrored by her foster mom who gave her the love and devotion that she should have had with her original owners. Sweet Pea was very much loved, fought her illness with great dachsie determination but due to the negligence of her previous owners lack of treatment, wasn't able to conquer it. She DID leave us knowing that she was very much loved. Sweet Pea's medical bills exceeded $2200.00 but it extended her life a few months and allowed us to know a very special dog who left a very big impression on those that met her. To those that donated towards Sweet Pea, thank you VERY much. Without the support from those that care we couldn't do what we do to help dogs like Sweet Pea.

Sweet Pea, your foster mom misses you greatly.

Hi, my name is Sweet Pea, and I'm as sweet as my name!  I am a retired senior at 13 years of age, suffering from Cushings Disease.  Unfortunately, my disease went untreated for some time, so now I am finally getting the proper testing and medication to make my life a lot better!  My foster Mom says I'm the sweetest gal she's ever met!  I love to snuggle with my human, it's my favorite place to be!  CCDR took me in, and has given me special shampoo to help my skin, and lots of tests for my Cushings Disease.

Cushings Disease is not curable, but managable with medication I take once a week.  Needless to say, Foster Mom says all these tests and medications are costing CCDR lots of money...but she promises me it's all worth it in the end!

Foster Mom and CCDR are volunteers, so we need every dollar we can get.  Can you help by donating to my special "Sweet Pea" fund?  Thank you so much for reading my story and thinking of me. I hope to find a new home soon, where someone will love me and keep up my medications, which can run about $60.00...each test I go through (3 so far) is over $100 each.  Please help if you can...even $1.00 helps CCDR pay for doggies like me to get the medical treatment we need.  Love, Sweet Pea

Update 12/27/2003

Sweet Pea has had a diagnosis. She has accute pancreatitis, which is a common side-effect of Cushings Disease (excess Cortisol can cause it).  To treat this, the doctor estimates 3-5 days in the hospital, including IV fluids, meds 3x a day, daily doctor care, ultrasounds if necessary. Unfortunately the cost could be as high as $1900.00. The vet says this can be very painful for her ( wich is why she was shaking so bad and won't eat, etc.) and can even lead to shock or death. Sweet Pea needs treatment as soon as possible and we are hoping some donations can be sent in her name to help cover the cost.
