Snuggles was treated for her heartworms, but tragically it was more than she could tolerate and she went to the bridge in July. Her foster mom knew there was a risk involved but she also saw the vitality and love this little dog gave and their love for her was so profound they wanted to have her around a few more years. It is with great saddness this little girl had so many years without the love of a family who adored her and a warm bed to sleep in. Snuggles wishes to thank those that helped and hopes your geneous donations will continue to help others who need assistance as well. Rest peacefully sweet girl, you were very much loved for the short period of time you were with us. _______________________________ Snuggles came into foster care in June 2002 and will remain as a permanent foster. She is a 13 year old smooth red mini, and the cutest little girl! As she grew older her owners did not seem to care for her any longer and would put her in a boarding kennel for months at a time. Due to the neglect and lack of proper care, Snuggle developed heartworms. She was seen by a vet who treated her with ProHeart but it did not kill the heargworms because he said treatment at her age was questionable and dangerous. She is a very active old gal but her favorite thing is to snuggle with her person on the couch or in the bed. She loves to burrow under the covers and curl up against you. She is very good natured and gets along well with everyone and all the other animals in her foster home. She eats a regular diet, but needs someone to help her clean her teeth after eating. She looks like a little chipmunk saving food for the winter. We call her our "little chipmunk" Because of her age and small
size if it is determined to be safe to give heartworm treatment, it will
be more expensive. She will have to be catheterized and given IV
fluids and the treatments will need to be spaced out over several weeks.
This will add up to make the cost higher than normal. But anyone
that ever met Snuggles at my house knows that she is worth it! Please help
us to give Snuggles a chance for a healthy life again.
Noel's original owners were going to euthanize her because back surgery she had in July 2001 for a ruptured disc had not fully recovered giving her full use of her rear legs or control of her bowels and bladder. The vet just couldn't euthanize her when he saw this tiny little girl with the wonderful attitude and zest for life and turned her over to CCDR. She is only 7 years old, still a young thing and very active. According to her foster mom she has the biggest heart of anything she's ever seen. She tries so hard! They are doing hydrotherapy and exercising her legs and are seeing some improvement, but it is clear that it is going to be a long process. Even though she has to endure a lot and cannot manipulate her legs normally, her spirits are not dampened. She loves to play ball and can sometimes even outrun the dogs with four good legs! And even when she can't, she's always right there trying. Other than that, Noel is a healthy little girl and if we can get her back up on her legs she will make a great addition to someone's family. She likes to lay beside you on the couch and when she sleeps with her person she likes to cuddle up to you with her head right under your chin. Her foster home cannot get over how loving she is and would like to continue with her vetinary care. The closest vet that deals with back problems to the degree that she needs is 40 miles from them but they are willing to drive the distance to work with her and get her the treatment she needs. "Anything we can do for Noel would be well worth every penny. She is truly a special baby and an angel of a dog." Any donation for Noel can be noted on the PayPal comment section. If you'd like to donate in memory of Snuggles, I'm sure she wouldn't mind helping her buddy. Thank you.
