As you can see by the stitches down his back, Smoochie had surgery. He incurred his injury of two disks by jumping off a bed, the dachshund owners nightmare. His owner took him to an Emergency vet clinic in Syracuse, NY but the prognosis wasn't good unless surgery was performed right away. Sadly his owner couldn't afford the $3000.00 dollar quote the clinic gave and reluctantly was going to have him euthanized. The clinic workers thought he was to young and sweet to be put to sleep and knew with surgery he'd be back up and walking. They thought rescue might be able to help and found CCDR on the internet. 

Our representative close to the Syracuse area was contacted and CCDR agreed to take in this sweet boy. The owners agreed to sign Smoochie over to rescue so that he could get the surgery that he very much needed and the ball began to roll. Smoochie went into surgery and emerged a "changed man." The vet has given him a 90% chance of a good recovery. So far he can wag his tail, stand on all fours and believe it or not he is trying to walk!!! The recovery will be long and slow but Smoochie is a very determined dog who will be keeping up with the best of them soon.

No one ever expects a tragedy to happen to them, especially a costly one. CCDR is fortunate enough to be there for the dogs when needed but it is not without it's difficulty financially.
