Pepper
This is Pepper, a double dapple dachshund. Pepper came from a kill shelter in Ohio and was in bad physical shape. He was wheezing terribly and smelled worse than any dog I had ever been near but, I knew he couldn't help his condition and it most likely meant there was a bigger problem. A trip to my vet confirmed Pepper had congestive heart failure. The smell was from the severe infection that Pepper had in his mouth from  rotted and broken teeth. The infection had traveled through his bronchia and to his heart. This was an obvious sign of neglect that had gone on a long time to become this ill. The first week I had Pepper here at home he couldn't even eat. He couldn't even drink ensure. I got him on pain meds right away and he had to be on antibiotics for four days before he could have surgery. He was so weak that for one week he barely moved. I would have to wake him and carry him out to go potty.

What a relief it was to this 13 year old boy to get all of those rotted, broken teeth out. His right eye is sunken in and he is totally blind. His left eye is halfway covered with a cataract and he can only see partially out of that eye. Pepper is still horribly infected throughout his little tiny eight pound body but, his vet. is really trying good medicine to rid him of the infection. He does have blood in his urine but, hopefully the medications. can clean this out of his system. We are absolutely in love with Pepper! On a positive note he is finally eating and his little tiny tail is wagging! He knows he is safe here and he knows he will continue to get whatever care we are able to give him. Any contribution to Pepper's care would greatly be appreciated! Pepper resides in Pennsylvania with Foster mom Michele and Jordan. Won't you please consider becoming Pepper's buddy?
