In mid June
a tiny two year old wirehair was dropped off at a shelter in southeast
Georgia. She was heartworm positive and needed treatment. This little
girl was so sweet and loving that the shelter employees couldn't bear to
put her down when her time was up. Their flurry of phone calls found Coast
to Coast Dachshund rescue and we made plans to transport her to a foster
home. that home started at the shelter in GA and ended with her asleep,
perched on my husband on a sofa in Jacksonville, Florida.
She gets along wonderfully with my kids and our other Dachshunds and most days she chooses to ignore our cat. Once she was spayed, up to date on shots and had finished her heartworm treatment the bills added up to $400, a price we'd gladly pay for just one snuggly kiss-filled morning with her. After 2 months in foster care Penny began opening her mouth continuously like a guppy. Our vet has tried her on a medication which costs $36 a month and wants us to see a canine neurologist for further diagnosis which will cost $85 for the appointment only.
