Great
News!! Honey Brown was adopted by her long term foster mom!! Thank you!
And, a HUGE thanks to those who were very kind and generous to Honey Brown's
needs. People like you are what keep us able to help dachshunds in need
getting the help they need as well as continue to help those with on-going
and expensive medical needs. Thank you again to Honey Brown's buddies!!
-----
Honey Brown is a black
and tan smooth standard who is between 6 and 8 years old. She is
insulin dependent and blind. Her vision loss is the result of a recent
complication from the diabetes.
She
has been in foster care for at least 4 months with Jen, a vet tech.
She was caring for the dog after Honey Brown had been picked up as a stray,
scheduled to be euthanized by a central Florida shelter, rescued, discovered
to have diabetes by a vet who recommended putting her to sleep and transported
to south Florida where she boarded at a vet's office while her diabetes
was brought under control. Jen gives Honey Brown her daily insulin injections
and has accommodated her special needs since she lost her sight while being
in foster care. None of the Dachshund applicants nor the contacts
that have been made with the diabetic community have had any interest
in this sweet dog. Jen is happy to have her as a long term foster but Honey
Brown's care is costly.
Honey Brown is fortunate
to still have a good quality of life but her chances for adoption are slim.
She is one of the Dachshunds that will likely remain in the care of CCDR
for her remaining years.

8-9-01
- Honey Brown has been touched by the fact that people care about her.
As you can see she rolled over when as if to say 'ah me?' somebody loves
ME?
Of course they do Honey
Brown!
Honey Brown has no clue she
is needy. Despite being blind she loves to play with our dachshund Petey.
They will chase and dance around each other for 10 minutes before Petey
gets tired and walks away. Honey Brown doesn't realize this, and
continues the game without him :-)
She also knows exactly where
her food bowl is and runs to it at breakneck speed at meal time.
When she hears the fridge open she will try to climb in, sniffing, sniffing
everything. She is also a blanket hog, and on more than one occasion
has reached up to get the blanket covering us in her teeth and then backs
away dragging it down to the floor for her use. She is 25 lbs and
has been in CCDR since March 2001. |
