Heidi
September 2005

Hello my name is Heidi.

I came into CCDR when my owner passed away and no one in the family wished to keep me or my pal Mickey. We were taken to a local humane society in Ohio where a shelter worker contacted CCDR. I was picked up from the shelter and taken to a foster home. I've had all of my vaccinations and even had my teeth cleaned, love to snuggle and be with my humans. I'm a little nervous around children but I'm not nippy. I have an interesting feature. For such a little girl, my voice is rather deep and raspy.

February 2006 -  I've traveled a bit since that was written.  I'm now in Virginia.  I thought I had an adoptive home in NC, but they rejected me.  My new foster mom doesn't know why because she thinks I'm wonderful, which I am. Since I was vetted in Ohio back in December, my new vet says I've developed some age related heart problems.  I hope she's not insinuating that I'm old!  I got a full cardiac work-up and started on some new medicines that are affordable. I take them very nicely with breakfast and dinner, which are my favorite times of the day.  (Foster mom said something about if it wasn't nailed down or didn't eat me first...) I also like to help out in the kitchen.  I quickly clean up any food items that may fall in the floor.  I would do more cleaning if they would drop more!  The doctor says I shouldn't be running any marathons, but I do like going for 'carries' while the other dogs walk, and for car rides. I like all the other dogs here, but there is this one young upstart that I have to keep in line.  He is my favorite nap partner, though.  I do like to curl up with another warm body, human or canine, as I have maintained my lean model's physique and get chilled easily. The teenage humans in the house call me Heidi the Mountain Princess. Something about a girl in the Alps.  I don't know what that's about, I'm from the flatlands of the mid-west, but they do treat me like a princess, and that's what's important.  They even got me a pink blanket that says 'princess' all over it.  I've appropriated the primo dog bed in the house which is located right in the hub of the family activity.
I can recline under my pink princess blanket and keep an eye on things.

My foster mom says I should probably stay here for the time being to get regulated on my medicines.  I have to have periodic bloodwork to be sure my medicines are at the right levels.  (They always give me something to eat after I donate, so I really don't mind giving blood.)  I'm also supposed to avoid stressful situations, so long-distance transports are definitely out of the question.

February 16, 2006 - Well, they tell me my bloodwork is wonderful so far.  My liver, kidneys, thyroid and such are in wonderful working order.  (I could have told them that!)  My heart meds are kicking in and I hardly ever cough now.  New foster mom says I have bladder and bowels of steel, 'cause I only potty a couple of times per day, no matter how often they take me out.  (I prefer the phrase 'buns of steel'.)

I would be interested in a sponsor who might contribute to my medical fund and with whom I could correspond.
Thank you for your time,
Heidi, the little Mountain Princess
