Update
on Daisy.
Just before Christmas 2008, Daisy was unable to walk. Daisy had been showing weakness in her walk, but one day she was "down" and did the typical "dragging" that so many dachshunds suffer from when there is injury to the neck or spine. She was immediately seen by her vet who felt it was an embolism and that rest, medication and supportive care would be the treatment. Daisy was on crate rest and within a few weeks began to show signs of trying to walk. She was extremely weak in her back left leg and continued to drag that, but her back right leg was allowing her to become a little mobile. It was about two months of her own determination to walk and a stroke of luck, but, Daisy has regained her ability to "walk" even though she wobbles like a weeble now. Her left hind leg still remains very weak and turns in, often times collapsing when she gets tired, but, overall, her strength, dachshund determination and her desire to be where the fun and food is, has greatly improved and she insists that it may take her a little longer to follow, but, she'll be right there "with ya" as long as you wait. She is a gem and such a love, happy and loves her dinner! Her wobble walk changes to the "wobble dance" when dinner gets prepared. It's a little "hop, skip and a jump, jump" that gets her to her groceries and treats. Go Daisy! --------------------------Daisy's story------------------------------------------------------ My name is Daisy and I'm 10 years old. I was taken to the shelter when my original owner could no longer care for me. Due to having seizures and having to be on phenobarbital daily, plus a chronic skin condition, combined with my age, I was not deemed adoptable and was to be put down. CCDR rescued me and I'm currently in foster care living with POMERANIANS! I was taken to the vet the day after my shelter release and found I also have a heart murmur. I am a good girl but have been told I have an odd odor to me. No one wants to pick me up because they say I leave this strange scent on them. The smell is due to the waxy residue on my skin and my allergies, but my foster mom bathes me weekly with shampoo that helps the sebaceous smell and also helps to relieve the constant itch that makes me want to scratch all of the time.
If you would like to be my buddy, I'd love to hear from you. If you'd like to donate towards my medical treatments, that would be great also! I am just one of the many dogs CCDR has in foster care who needed help, got it and will be in permanent foster care. We are great dogs, we just need a little more care. Thanks for visiting. See you at the hot dog stand! --- Daisy Mae
