Pepper
Update on Pepper.

Pepper has continued to rally and get better from the wonderful care of his foster mom and the help of CCDR. He is happy and content but is still monitored for on-going health issues due to the lack of care and the complications of being a double dapple. He will be in permanent foster care due to needing contant medical care.

------------Pepper's Story-------

This is Pepper, a double dapple dachshund. Pepper came from a kill shelter in Ohio and was in very poor physical shapewhen he came into rescue.. He was wheezing terribly and smelled worse having been kept in horrible conditions. A trip to the vet confirmed Pepper had congestive heart failure. The smell was from the severe infection that Pepper had in his mouth from rotten and broken teeth. The infection had traveled through his bronchia and to his heart and was an obvious sign of neglect that had gone on a long time to become this ill. The first week Pepper was in his foster home, he couldn't eat nor drink. He was put on antibiotics and hand fed until he was strong enough to eat and drink. He had to recover well enough to be able to have a much needed dental.

What a relief it was to this 13 year old boy to get all of those rotten, broken teeth out. Aside from his teeth issue, his right eye is sunken in and he is totally blind in that eye, a result of his double dapple breeding.. His left eye is covered with a cataract and he can only see partially out of that eye. Pepper is still horribly infected throughout his little tiny eight pound body but, his vet is treating him with various medicine to rid him of the infection. He had blood in his urine which should also clear as a result of antiobiotics. Pepper is an absolute love! On a positive note he is finally eating and his little tiny tail is wagging! He knows he is safe here and he knows he will continue to get whatever care we are able to give him. Any contribution to Pepper's care would greatly be appreciated! Won't you please consider becoming Pepper's buddy?
