This
is Faith. Faith came from a home that we have had to take dogs out
of prior to her, Mercy and Hope, who you can read about on our adoption
page. Her "home" was filthy and she lived with dozens of other dogs, being
fed only every so often. She had a litter of puppies every time she
came into season causing her to physical condition to deteriorate as shown
in this photo. This was due to neglect and ignorance . Her socialization
skills are not developed from having lived without much interaction, so
we are working on that. She is still untrusting of every move made towards
her, but, she is trying to adapt and will now take small bites of food
out of a hand. We're also working on getting her in better physical condition
so she can be spayed. At this time she is too fragile and weak having just
weaned another litter of puppies (who are on the website for adoption.)
Cruelty
comes in all forms from neglect to physical cruelty. In this case, one
of the people who lived in the house with the dogs was abusive and cruel.
Faith's grandmother was beaten with a metal pipe and Faith's brother had
his eye plucked out because he "needed disciplining." The rest of
the dogs were disciplined with a coat hanger and a large plastic garden
rake. Rescue is often notified when the local authorities must get involved
and in this case, because we had taken dogs out of this home prior, the
authorities had been involved from the beginning and said "enough is enough."
CCDR was right there to help and retrieved dogs and puppies, healthy ones
and dogs such as Faith. Faith's outcome would have been euthanasia if she
had been taken by animal control, but CCDR has the ability to give dogs
like Faith a second chance by putting them in foster care so they can recuperate
and have a second chance at a new life. Her previous owners are going
to answer to the authorities but our main concern is for the dogs' well
being. Faith won't be available for adoption for some
time, but we need sponsors to send get well wishes to her and help
with upcoming vet needs. Her vetting is going to range a lot
more than her adoption fee is, so donations are truly appreciated as always.
We'll continue to update you on Faith's progress!
